Many times family notification was very difficult or impossible, and always very time consuming. Patients and their families would arrive at the ER assuming the hospital had resources to obtain critical information such as medications, allergies & medical history. Without immediate access to this information, patients are forced to wait while missing doses can add to the complexity of their care.
